Community members, local officials and advocates gathered at Reading’s City Park on Monday, August 31, for the third annual International Overdose Awareness Day flag-raising ceremony.
Organized by the SOS Berks Opioid Coalition in partnership with the City of Reading, the ceremony honored those who have lost their lives to an overdose, recognized the grief carried by their families and friends, and highlighted prevention, treatment and recovery resources available in Berks County.
Speakers shared personal stories of loss and recovery while emphasizing the importance of reducing the stigma surrounding substance use disorder. The ceremony concluded with the raising of the Overdose Awareness Day flag, which will fly at City Park for seven days.
