We have received notice that a mosquito sample collected in Maidencreek Township has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The county mosquito team will continue to conduct extra larval and adult mosquito surveillance to help diminish the potential spread of West Nile. The risk of West Nile transmission is still fairly low, but if continued virus activity is detected, it may become necessary to conduct an adult control in the affected area. Jonathan Sobkowiak was convicted by a jury last week of Neglect of a Care-Dependent Person, Financial Exploitation of an Elderly Adult, and theft related charges, after a week-long trial. His wife, Li Zheng, was also convicted of Neglect of a Care-Dependent Person. Between 2020 and 2022, Sobkowiak used his Power of Attorney for his 86-year-old mother to remove her from a nursing home and keep her isolated and malnourished in his basement.
