Tower Direct
TowerDIRECT has added sensory kits to its ambulances to help children and adults with autism feel more comfortable during medical emergencies. The initiative was inspired by paramedic Melissa Freed, whose 4-year-old son has autism. After seeing how sensory tools helped her son during hospital visits, she wanted to make similar resources available to patients in ambulances. The kits, now available across TowerDIRECT’s fleet of approximately 18 ambulances, include noise-canceling headphones, fidget toys, drawing pads and chewable sensory toys to help patients cope with stressful situations and sensory overload.
