Friend, Inc. Community Services is expanding its new food pantry and social services center in Kutztown with the help of $800,000 in state grant funding. State Sen. Judy Schwank joined organization leaders Friday to highlight the funding, which will support the next phase of renovations at 60 Bieber Alley. Plans include a teaching kitchen, workshop space and expanded access to community services, helping residents of northeastern Berks County find essential resources closer to home. The food pantry opened in September, with the next phase of construction expected to begin in November.
