International Overdose Awareness Day
Community members and local leaders gathered Monday afternoon at Reading’s City Park to remember those who have lost their lives to an overdose as part of International Overdose Awareness Day. The ceremony marked the third year the SOS Berks Opioid Coalition and City of Reading have partnered for the observance, which included remarks from local and state officials, an invocation, a moment of silence and the raising of the Overdose Awareness Day flag. “Substance use disorder does not discriminate, and neither should our compassion,” said Berks County Commissioner and SOS Berks Co-Chair Michael Rivera. The flag will fly at City Park for seven days in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to an overdose.
