Driver charged in crash that killed two volunteer firefighters in Berks County
Berks County officials shared new details Tuesday on the crash that killed two Walnuttown Fire Company leaders over the weekend. District Attorney John Adams said Alexander Sepulveda Rivera is facing multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle while DUI, after allegedly veering off Route 222 and striking a UTV carrying Chief Jeffory Buck and Assistant Chief Robert Shick Jr. during a search for a missing woman. Authorities said Rivera admitted to driving, told investigators he had smoked marijuana, and did not have a valid driver’s license. He remains in custody with bail set at $500,000. Officials called the incident a tragic loss for the community, noting both firefighters were volunteers serving at the time of the crash.
