Governor visits Douglass Township
Gov. Josh Shapiro visited Douglass Village in Douglass Township on Wednesday to highlight proposed housing reforms aimed at protecting residents of manufactured home communities from steep lot rent increases. During the visit, resident Christine Zimmer shared how her monthly lot rent has risen from $495 in 2019 to about $900 today. Shapiro said similar increases are affecting thousands of Pennsylvanians who own their homes but rent the land beneath them. The governor is calling on the state Senate to pass legislation that would cap annual lot rent increases, saying the measure would help protect residents—many of whom live on fixed incomes—from sharp price hikes.
