Berks Barber School
A new chapter in local barber education began Friday with the ribbon cutting of Berks Barber School at 432 Schuylkill Avenue in Reading. The event marked the official reopening of a space that once housed the former Charlie G. Haynes Barber School, a long-standing institution known for training hundreds of barbers. Mayor Eddie Moran joined school owner Samuel De la Cruz to recognize the significance of the moment, paying tribute to Haynes’ legacy while celebrating the continuation of that mission under De la Cruz’s leadership. De la Cruz, a former student of Haynes, called the opportunity to carry on the tradition “an honor,” and credited the school’s team and students for helping bring the vision to life.
