Reading Parking Authority reviewing citations after mobile payment processing issue

October 29, 2026 - 09:34 PM - Berks Weekly

The Reading Parking Authority (RPA) is reviewing parking citations issued over the past several months after discovering that some payments made through a mobile payment provider may not have been properly recorded in its parking enforcement system.

According to a public statement issued by the authority, the issue involves parking payments that were successfully processed but may not have been accurately transferred to the system used to issue citations. As a result, some motorists may have received parking tickets despite having paid for parking.

RPA said it is working with its technology partners to identify the cause of the problem, reconcile payment records and correct any affected citations.

The authority is reviewing payments made through the affected provider between July 13 and October 27, 2026. Those transactions are being compared against parking citations to determine whether motorists were incorrectly ticketed.

If a review confirms that a motorist paid for parking, the corresponding citation will be voided or corrected. Collection activity involving citations under review will also be suspended while the process is underway.

RPA expects to complete its review and correct affected historical citations by the close of business on Friday, October 30.

The authority explained that its gateless, ticketless parking system relies on multiple payment technologies. While those systems continue to process transactions, some payment records have not consistently transferred to the parking enforcement system.

Officials are working with their technology partners to determine the cause and implement a permanent solution to prevent similar issues in the future.

Motorists who believe they received a citation despite paying for parking are encouraged to contact the Reading Parking Authority at info@readingparking.com and provide supporting documentation, such as a payment confirmation or transaction receipt.

RPA also cautioned that some motorists may receive collection letters for citations that are currently under review or have already been canceled. This can occur because collection notices and citation records may not be updated at the same time.

Anyone receiving a collection notice for a citation they believe was paid or canceled should contact the authority so staff can review the matter and take appropriate action.

The authority said it will continue reviewing and correcting any additional affected citations identified during the reconciliation process.

RPA has not specified how many citations may have been affected or identified the mobile payment provider involved.

The authority said it remains committed to accurate parking enforcement, fair treatment of motorists and reliable parking services for the Reading community.
