The Reading Police Department identified 61 violations and placed 10 commercial trucks and five drivers out of service during a commercial motor vehicle safety enforcement detail conducted Wednesday, October 21.
The department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit worked alongside other participating agencies to inspect commercial vehicles for compliance with state and federal safety regulations.
According to police, the operation included weighing and measuring commercial vehicles and conducting Department of Transportation (DOT) truck inspections to identify potential safety concerns.
Officers completed 21 truck inspections during the detail, identifying 61 violations. As a result, 10 trucks and five drivers were placed out of service.
The operation also provided a training opportunity for officers working toward certification through the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP). Seven mentored inspections were completed as part of the program, which helps train officers to conduct commercial vehicle inspections.
Police said the collaborative enforcement effort was intended to identify safety concerns, promote regulatory compliance and improve roadway safety for all motorists.
