The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 10/1/2026, Peg’s Place, located at 1700 N. 12th St., Reading, PA 19612, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply ware washing sinks at the time of this inspection.

On 10/1/2026, Mamas Pizza, located at 2661 Shillington Rd., Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility is reusing plastic souffle cups as a utensil, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Corrected and discarded.

On 10/1/2026, Jakes Place, located at 1601 N. 13th St., Reading, PA 19612, was inspected and found with the following violation: Cold storage had liquid pooled on floor believed to be animal byproduct. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the walk in refrigerator, is not being date marked.

On 10/1/2026, Buck Rubs, located at 89 Berkley Rd., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ice machine kick plate, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink organic residue and was not clean to sight and touch.

On 10/2/2026, Tully’s @ PSU Berks (Perkins Bldg.), located at 2080 Tulpehocken Rd., Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Chicken was held at 122 °F in the serving area rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected immediately by reheating chicken and confirming proper temperature of the hot hold unit before placing chicken back in the unit.

On 10/2/2026, That Burger Place, located at 10 S. Summit Ave., Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Multiple foods were held at 42.8°F, in the refrigerator area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the beef refrigerator, is not being date marked. Observed wet wiping cloths in sink area, not being stored in sanitizer solution. Corrected. The handwash sink in the area was blocked by brooms dustpan and had equipment in the sink. Sink was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.

On 10/2/2026, Spunktown Tavern, located at 699 Englesville Rd., Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid.

On 10/2/2026, Maple Grove Raceway, located at 30 Stauffer Park Ln., Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violation: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed cold water handle leaking at the handwash sink on the cookline.

On 10/2/2026, Dollar General #24028, located at 210 N. 3rd St., Womelsdorf, PA 19567, was inspected and found with the following violation: (3) excessively dented, distressed canned items observed in canned food aisle and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected removed from shalf.

On 10/2/2026, 13th & Union Elementary School, located at 1600 N. 13th St., Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: RTE (Ravioli) food was held at 125.2 °F, in the serving area, rather than 135°F or above as required.

On 10/5/2026, Sajal Hot Chicken and Gyro Grill, located at 164 W. Main St., Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On 10/5/2026, Rich Maiden Golf Course, located at 234 Richmaiden Rd., Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired (10/13/2025) and is no longer valid. Fountain gun holder, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink organic matter and was not clean to sight and touch. Please increase the cleaning frequency of this item to avoid build up.

On 10/5/2026, Morgantown Diner, located at 101 Moreview Blvd., Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, is not being date marked. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the front refrigerator next to the salad prep area, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Multiple foods were held at 51°F, in the back refrigerator area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Food employees observed in kitchen area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Corrected. Observed deeply four scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Walk-in freezer door not properly sealing resulting in build up of ice on food, the floor and shelving. Multiple foods in throughout the kitchen area stored open with no covering. Observed single use take-out containers not stored inverted to protect food contact surface. Corrected. The handwash sink in the prep area being used as a food preparation sink as evidenced by observed potatoes in the sink. Corrected. Cleaned and sanitized utensils located in front service area, are stored with food contact surfaces / food or lip area exposed to hand contact when retrieved by food employees. Corrected. Observed box of food stored directly on the floor in handwash sink area in the back area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the back prep area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in ware wash area, stored uncovered or not inverted. Corrected. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in front area and ware wash area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting).

On 10/5/2026, BB’s Grocery Outlet, located at 150 Morview Blvd., Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violation: Severely dented, swollen, distressed canned items observed in baby food aisle are and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Observed 3 cans of baby formula that were severely dented. Corrected.

On 10/6/2026, Rosa’s Family Restaurant, located at 7156 Bernville Rd., Bernville, PA 19506, was inspected and found with the following violation: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, are not being marked with the date it was opened. Sliced mushrooms and diced tomatoes were held at 47 °F, in the cookline area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Please repair or replace this unit the ice is not keeping it at the correct temperature. Observed cases of food stored directly on the floor in walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.

On 10/6/2026, Pizza Como, located at 501 State St., Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violation: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Sanitizer container was changed and it still reads 0ppm, owner is calling for service and restaurant will be sanitizing dishes in three bay sinks until repairs are made. Interior kick plate of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink organic residue and was not clean to sight and touch.

On 10/6/2026, Moose Lodge #0523, located at 12 S. 3rd St., Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violation: Working containers in the kitchen area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected, labeled.

On 10/6/2026, Giovanni’s Pizzeria, located at 1306 Reading Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed the floor throughout the kitchen is cracked and has holes in it. Observed cardboard being utilized as a floor covering in the storage area. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. The ventilation hood over grill, a Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

On 10/7/2026, El Muneco Tacos Y Mas MFF3, located at 2201 Howard Blvd., Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have the correct type of sanitizer test strips for the sanitizer product being used (quaternary ammonia tablets).

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Rockland Market in Reading, Kutztown Area SD High School in Kutztown, Janelle’s Diner in Mertztown, Brandywine Heights SD High School in Mertztown, Albright College Cafeteria in Reading, Wawa #8179 in Robesonia, Robin Hill Camping Resort in Lenhartsville, Pop Pops Lemonade in Reading, Malizzi Cakes & Creamery in Douglassville, Cyber Cafe @ PSU Berks in Wyomissing, Conrad Weiser SD West Elementary in Womelsdorf, Arby’s #1130 in Reading, Ambu-Bar in Wernersville, Hamburg Area SD Perry Elementary in Shoemakersville, Freddy Bear’s Smokin Hot BBQ in Fleetwood, Pretzel Revolution in Temple, Hamburg Area Middle School in Hamburg, Boyertown Area Schools Earl Elementary in Boyertown, Twilight Acres Creamery & Bakery in Womelsdorf, Brandywine Heights Middle School in Topton, and Autumn Festival at Savidge Farms in Mertztown.
