My Gut Instinct celebrated the success of its 13th Annual Guts & Glory: A Community Wellness Festival For Every Body on Saturday, October 3, at Jim Dietrich Park in Reading. The free, family- and pet-friendly event brought together 250 attendees, more than 50 vendors and community partners, and 25 volunteers for a day focused on health, wellness, prevention and community connection.

This year’s festival centered around the theme “Thrive From the Inside Out” and introduced attendees to six pillars of whole-body wellness: NOURISH, REST, MOVE, PREVENT, GLOW and COMMUNITY.

“What an extraordinary day for our community! Our 13th annual Guts & Glory Festival was filled with great energy, uplifting education, positive vibes, and the kind of community spirit that reminds us why this event matters year after year. Under bright, sunny skies, we celebrated wellness in all its forms learning together, laughing together, and embracing every opportunity to grow healthier together. The spirit and enthusiasm of this community is our why. My hope is that year after year, Guts & Glory continues to remind each of us that true wellness starts within, empowering us to take an active role in our own health. Every step we take in our own daily lives helps us thrive from the inside out,” said Dr. Aparna Mele, creator of Guts & Glory event.

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to learn from local health organizations, wellness professionals, nonprofits and community businesses while participating in hands-on activities designed to make wellness accessible and engaging for the whole family.

Activities and experiences included blood pressure screenings, physical fitness assessments and demonstrations, health and wellness education, the Guts & Glory Passport, the interactive inflatable colon exhibit, henna tattoos, massage and holistic wellness experiences, fitness and movement activities, children’s activities, the Farmer’s & Maker’s Market, food and beverages, and opportunities to connect with local organizations and community resources.

The festival also featured special entertainment and community experiences, including a patriotic performance by the Blue Mountain Heritage Chorus, featuring approximately 35 members, and music throughout the event from Pollen Consolidated.

The Veggie Race, presented by Drexel University College of Medicine, gave attendees another opportunity to participate in a fun, interactive wellness activity while reinforcing the importance of nutrition and healthy choices.

The Guts & Glory Passport encouraged attendees to explore the festival’s six wellness zones and engage with participating organizations throughout the event. Completed passports were submitted at the Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center booth for a chance to win prizes.

As part of My Gut Instinct’s commitment to supporting the broader community, attendees were also encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations for Helping Harvest. The event collected approximately 75 pounds of food to support Helping Harvest’s work providing food assistance throughout the community.

“Every year, we are reminded that wellness is not just an individual journey, it’s a collective one. Even as a nonprofit health festival, we believe deeply in giving back, lifting others up, and strengthening the network of organizations that serve our community. When nonprofits support nonprofits, we create a ripple effect of compassion, resources, and shared purpose that reaches far beyond a single event. Health starts within, but it grows when we give outward,” states Mele.

A Community Effort
Guts & Glory would not be possible without the support of the many organizations, businesses, healthcare professionals, volunteers and community members who contributed their time and resources.

This year’s event was made possible with the support of title sponsor Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center, and My Gut Instinct.

My Gut Instinct would also like to recognize the 25 volunteers who helped with event set-up, registration, activities, vendor support, clean-up and the local organizations and businesses that provided educational resources, interactive experiences and support throughout the festival.

Looking Ahead
Following the success of this year’s event, My Gut Instinct will continue its work to inspire and empower the community to embrace health and live better for longevity, while increasing awareness of preventive health care, healthy choices and preventable diseases.
