The Reading Pagoda and City Hall are being illuminated in blue and white as the city celebrates Oktoberfest and recognizes the German heritage and traditions of the Reading Liederkranz.

The Pagoda will shine in the colors Wednesday evening, Sept. 30, while City Hall will remain illuminated in blue and white through Saturday, Oct. 3.

City officials said the special lighting recognizes the longstanding connection between the Reading community and the Reading Liederkranz while adding to festivities surrounding this year’s Oktoberfest celebration.

“When we have an opportunity to celebrate one of the traditions and organizations that has helped shape Reading, I think we should,” Mayor Eddie Morán said. “That’s why I wanted the Pagoda lit in blue and white for the Reading Liederkranz and Oktoberfest. It’s a great way to recognize the Liederkranz and let the Pagoda be part of the celebration.”

Jon Linton of the Reading Liederkranz said the organization appreciated the city’s recognition of the occasion.

“We are thrilled to see Reading’s iconic Pagoda shining Bavarian blue in celebration of Oktoberfest,” Linton said. “The Pagoda is such a special symbol of our city, and having it illuminated in the colors of Bavaria is a wonderful way to bring together Reading’s unique identity with the spirit of German heritage, friendship, and celebration.”

Linton also thanked the City of Reading for helping mark the occasion and invited residents to enjoy the illuminated Pagoda as part of the community’s Oktoberfest celebration.

The Pagoda lighting is scheduled for the evening of Sept. 30. City Hall’s blue and white lighting will continue through Oct. 3.
