The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 9/17/2026, Sajal Hot Chicken and Gyro Grill, located at 164 W. Main St., Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violations: Soap was not available at the hand wash sink in the prep area or restroom. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand wash sink in the prep area. Facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Facility is not removing dead or trapped insects from control devices frequently, as evidenced by old glue traps in basement and warewashing area. Hot water handle of the hand wash sink in the prep/warewashing area is not functional at the time of inspection. The handle is not properly secured. No hot water available. Interior surfaces of the ice machine, observed with black and pink residue and was not clean to sight and touch. “Sanitize” basin of the 3-basin warewash sink observed encrusted with an accumulation of food residue indicating a lack of properly following the wash, rinse, sanitize procedure for equipment and utensils. 2 plastic containers of used cooking oil observed uncovered being stored in the prep area and not properly disposed. Flies observed in prep/ warewashing area.
On 9/17/2026, Pricetown Sunoco, located at 3123 Pricetown Rd., Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: 5-16oz. Clover farm 2% milk containers in the reach in part of the walk-in cooler with an expiration date of 9/10/2026. Corrected removed. The light intensity in the consumer buffet / reach-in cooler / handwashing / warewashing area is not at least 20 foot candles. Lights were observed not working. Please repair as you need 20 foot candles of light to effectively wash dishes. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the unisex restroom area. Corrected. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed pipes leaking at the three-compartment sink. Water was observed turned off to the sink. Repair this as water needs to be available at all times at this sink. Ceiling tiles observed with water stains and damaged in the dish/dry storage area and need to be replaced.
On 9/17/2026, Oley Fire Company – located at 477 A Main St., Oley, PA 19547, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employee observed in hot food area not wearing proper hair restraint. Corrected. Food employee observed in french fry area not wearing proper hair restraint. Corrected. One of the soda guns at the bar, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.
On 9/18/2026, Soful Eats, located at 615 Penn Ave., Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violation: Single service containers in the front area not stored inverted to protect the food contact surface. Corrected. New food facility in operation more than 90 days and has not employed a certified food employee as required. Owner is scheduled to take the test next week. Food facility does not have the correct type of sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink. There is an accumulation of ice on the condenser fans in the 2-door refrigerator in the kitchen area. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the back preparation area. Corrected.
On 9/18/2026, Pagoda City Brewing Co., Inc., located at 2934 5th Street Hwy., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed wet wiping cloths in prep area, not being stored in sanitizer solution. Corrected on inspection.
On 9/18/2026, J & F Seafood, located at 2934 N. 5th St., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employee observed in food service area, not wearing proper hair restraint, such as net, or hats.
On 9/18/2026, Health Fitness & Wellness @ LA Fitness, located at 1183 Berkshire, Reading, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: New food facility owner does not yet employ a certified food employee as required. Correct within 90 days. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking at the faucet for one of the sinks in the front service area. Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply all sinks at the time of this inspection. The sinks in the front service area and the handwash sink in the back area (near the ice machine) only have water at 77 degrees F.
On 9/18/2026, Greenbriar Lounge @ Ledgerock, located at 1 Green Briar Dr., Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violation: Scoop being stored in the ice machine with handle touching and/or buried beneath the ice. Corrected. Interior of the ice machine at the front bar, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed a build of an apparent blue slime.
On 9/18/2026, Central Beneficial Assn., located at 1409 Park Place, Laureldale, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Non-food contact surfaces of the side of the stove not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of grease and debris. Hood vent filters are observed with excessive dust build up above the fryer in the kitchen and are in need of cleaning.
On 9/18/2026, Brooklyn Place, located at 101 Fifth Ave., West Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility has an employee that has taken food safety training program; however, the food safety program was not an ANSI/CFP accredited Certified Food Manager program. Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the 2-door refrigeration unit at the blender area. The handwash sink in the kitchen area does not have single use towels. Corrected.
On 9/21/2026, Sinking Spring VFW Post 6150, located at 550 Columbia Ave., Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: The potato slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
On 9/21/2026, Chapel Hill Golf Course, located at 2023 Old Lancaster Pike, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: Plastic forks on the bar are not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched when dispensed. Corrected. Food facility does not have the correct type of sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sinks when using the quaternary ammonia tablets. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. The handwash sink in the kitchen area was blocked by a table and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. Working container (spray bottle) in the bar area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On 9/22/2026, Shirley’s Cafe & Tequila Bar, located at 1615 Duke St., Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink (quaternary ammonia). Observed some containers of food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. The handwash sink in the basement food preparation area was blocked by a table and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.
On 9/22/2026, Mama Licha Mexican + Italian Restaurant, located at 14949 Kutztown Rd., Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Dough mixer observed with food residue; not cleaned at a proper frequency after use. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair as observed by leaking pipe at the 3-bay ware wash sink.

On 9/22/2026, Kutztown Tavern, located at 272 W. Main St., Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Working containers in the bar area, used for storing sanitizer, taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. PIC labeled container. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible a cold hold unit in the prep area. PIC provided thermometer during inspection.
On 9/23/2026, On the Hook Fish & Chips / CCHD #1563, located at 3805 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food Employee observed donning single use gloves without a prior hand wash. EHS directed staff member to discard gloves, wash hands, and put on a clean pair of gloves. Observed soup thawing in 3-bay sink under hot running water. If thawed under running water, water must not exceed 70F. Soup was moved to cooler. Observed no chemical sanitizer being used on equipment and utensils after washing and rinsing them, and prior to use. Dishware must be immersed in sanitizer prior to air drying. Do not spray on. Staff obtained a quaternary ammonium based sanitizer. An additional full-time staff member must take an ANSI-accredited food manager course. All staff members must at least take a food handler course. Existing food manager must be onsite full-time until an additional staff member has become certified. A Food Employee was observed washing their hands at the 3-bay sink rather than the designated handwash sink. Hands cannot be washed in 3-bay sink. Wash hands in hand sink ONLY. Facility bought chlorine test strips, but does not use a chlorine-based sanitizer. Buy QT-40 test strips. Observed cardboard being utilized as a floor covering. Facility may provide anti-slip mats if desired. Discontinue use of cardboard for this purpose. Working container of bleach taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Label all chemicals. Time in lieu of temperature being used in the food facility to control ready to eat Time/Temperature Controlled for Safety (TCS) foods without written procedures or documentation to verify disposition of food. Procedures must be written and supplied to this department. Time must be documented daily. CCHD Food Manager is not a full-time onsite staff member. At least one full-time onsite staff member must take a food manager course within 1 month. Apply for CCHD CFM certificate within 3 months of course completion. Existing food manager must be onsite full-time until an additional staff member has become certified. The handwash sink was blocked by a rag and dishware and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Do not block hand sink. Hand sinks are for handwashing only.
