The City of Reading and Reading Police Department recognized 12 members of the department who were promoted to leadership and investigative positions during a ceremony Wednesday.
The ceremony included the swearing-in of officers recently promoted to captain, lieutenant, sergeant and criminal investigator.
“Today, we recognize members of our Police Department who have demonstrated their commitment to serving and protecting the people of Reading,” Mayor Eddie Morán said. “These promotions reflect the trust placed in their leadership, experience, and professionalism. I congratulate each of them and their families, and I look forward to the continued work they will do on behalf of our great city.”
Melville Fegely and Scott Errington were promoted to captain.
Stephen Butler, Bradley McClure and William Pletcher were promoted to lieutenant.
Timothy Morris, Kyle Kunkle, Ryan Crampsie, Macklin Stoddard and Peter Clauss were promoted to sergeant.
Drew Zebertavage and William Fursin were promoted to criminal investigator.
Reading Police Chief Javier Ruiz said the promotions bring additional responsibilities for those moving into their new positions.
“Each of these promotions represents a significant accomplishment and a new level of responsibility,” Ruiz said. “These men have earned the opportunity to lead, mentor, and continue serving our department and our community. I am proud of their work and look forward to what they will accomplish in their new roles.”
City officials said the promotions recognize the experience, dedication and continued service of the department members to the Reading community.
