The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program announced Friday that police will conduct roving DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints on Berks County roadways through the end of September.
The enforcement effort is aimed at identifying and removing impaired drivers from area roads. Specific dates, times and locations for the patrols and checkpoints were not announced.
According to the program, Berks County police officers will be watching for motorists suspected of driving while impaired as part of the increased enforcement effort.
The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program provides equipment, funding and coordination for municipal police DUI enforcement efforts across 11 Pennsylvania counties.
The sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
