The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 8/27/2026, Star City Diner and Pizza Parlor, located at 600 Shoemaker Ave., Shoemakersville, PA 19555, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the dishwasher. Trash receptacle / waste handling unit outside does not have a tight-fitting lid or cover. Observed large containers of hot soups in the walk-in cooler (113°F and 158°F). The soups were made this morning, and proper cooling methods were started during this inspection. Soap was not available at the handwash sinks in the front counter area and the main kitchen area. Corrected. The small slicer in the back prep area, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. The drain line for the center bowl of the 3-compartment sink is leaking a significant amount of water. Outside waste grease handling unit and ground in the area was extremely dirty.
On 8/27/2026, Mission Washoku, located at 10 S. Summit Ave., Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Multiple foods were held at 120°F, in the hot hold area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Raw shell eggs stored above ready-to-eat food in the refrigerator. Corrected. Multiple food ingredient storage containers, in the prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Corrected.
On 8/27/2026, Dollar General #15084, located at 2471 Lancaster Pike, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Mops are not being hung to air dry. Severely dented, swollen, distressed canned items observed in the canned food aisle are and intended for use or sale in the food facility Corrected.
On 8/28/2026, Mikura Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar, located at 840 N. Park Rd., Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in one of the fish cases at the sushi bar. Corrected.
On 8/29/2026, China Fun, located at 3611 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Floors under tables and cook’s line observed to have build-up of grime. Trash can exterior, a non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Front reach-in refrigerator door glides soiled. Food employees observed in food prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Screen door located in the rear area of the food facility has a gap/tears and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Food dispensing utensil in multiple food bins observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and/or no handle present. In some cases, proper utensil is in use with improper utensil.
On 8/31/2026, Morgantown Coffee House, located at 4997 Twin Valley Rd., Suite 2, Elverson, PA 19520, was inspected and found with the following violation: Interior of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have apparent slime build up and was not clean to sight and touch. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. The fan grate on the walk-in cooler condensing unit and the shelving have an apparent mold build up.
On 8/31/2026, Good Friend Chinese Restaurant, located at 206 Crossings Blvd., Elverson, PA 19520, was inspected and found with the following violation: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Observed the shelving in the walk-in cooler to be rusted and corroding creating a surface that is not easily cleanable. Observed the front grill area to have plexiglass that is fastened to the table and the area around the bottom perimeter is covered with clear tape creating a surface that is not easily cleanable. Tape is not an approved material for repairs. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, Bain Marie and refrigerator, are not being date marked. Corrected. Multiple foods in the kitchen area stored open with no covering. Food in the refrigerator, Bain Main Marie and walk-in cooler stored uncovered. Corrected. Food facility is reusing plastic to go containers as scoops, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Corrected. Observed the plexiglass around the front grill, in front prep area, with an accumulation of grease and food residue on non-food contact surfaces. Observed the fan grates and the ceiling in the walk-in cooler to have dust and apparent mold growth. Crab Rangoons, a refrigerated ready to eat time/temperature control for safety food, in the front refrigerator area, was not compliant with datemarking by being labeled with a discard or use by date of no more than 7 days, and requires discarding. Corrected. Can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Can opener was also completely rusted. Corrected. Replaced with new can opener during this inspection.
On 8/31/2026, Dunkin Donuts, located at 800 Crossings Blvd., Elverson, PA 19520, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food contact surface of plastic pitcher is not smooth, easily cleanable and/or resistant to pitting, cracking or scratching. Observed plastic pitcher with a crack near the top. Corrected (discarded). Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the back area next to ice machine. Corrected. Food employees observed in kitchen area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers.
On 9/1/2026, New York Bagelry, located at 2720 Penn Ave., West Lawn, PA 19609, was inspected and found with the following violation: Two food employees observed in kitchen area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats.
On 9/1/2026, Golden Oaks Golf Club, located at 10 Stonehedge Dr., Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: Filters not observed on hood system area above deep fryers. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible in refrigeration units. PIC provided thermometers during inspection. Observed the following equipment with an accumulation of food residue and/or debris on non-food contact surfaces: -ice machine -mop bucket -grill and cooking line equipment. Draft beer dispenser in the bar area has a hose attachment that is draining into a bucket and is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap.
On 9/1/2026, Duck Donuts, located at 86 Commerce Dr., Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Soap dispenser for the back handwash sink has fallen off the wall and is not currently usable. Bulk food ingredient storage containers are not labeled with the common name of the food. Scoops being stored in the bulk dry toppings bins with handle touching the product.
On 9/1/2026, Boyers Food Market #66229, located at 7166 Bernville Rd., Bernville, PA 19506, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ceiling tiles missing in the back food storage area need to be replaced.
On 9/2/2026, Hong Kong, located at 51 King Plaza, Oley, PA 19547, was inspected and found with the following violations: Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Corrected. Ceiling tile missing in the back dry storage area needs to be replaced.
On 9/2/2026, Healthy U Fitness, located at 1291 Penn Ave., Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: The hot water handle for the handwash sink at the drink bar is loose and not operating properly.
