Berks County Public Libraries celebrates 40 years with commemorative library card

August 28, 2026 - 05:54 PM - Berks Weekly

Berks County Public Libraries is marking its 40th anniversary with a limited-edition library card featuring symbols of Berks County and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage.

The commemorative card will become available Sept. 1 at Berks County Public Libraries locations as libraries nationwide observe National Library Card Sign-up Month.

The anniversary design was created by Amanda Kusant, a staff member at the Spring Township and West Lawn-Wyomissing Hills libraries. The card features local imagery including the Reading Pagoda and a Pennsylvania Dutch distelfink.

The design was selected through a community vote held earlier this year. Residents chose from 11 entries submitted by library staff members and affiliates to determine which artwork would appear on the anniversary card.

Both new and existing library patrons will be able to request the commemorative design. Those applying for their first library card can select the anniversary card, while current cardholders can request it as a replacement for their existing card.

The limited-edition cards will be available at all Berks County Public Libraries locations beginning Sept. 1 while supplies last.
