The Borough of Wyomissing has launched a new Memorial Benches in the Parklands program, giving residents and families an opportunity to honor loved ones with a permanent tribute in the community’s park system.
The program allows individuals and families to dedicate memorial benches at approved locations throughout the Parklands of Wyomissing. Borough officials said the benches are intended to provide places for visitors to rest, reflect and enjoy the natural surroundings while enhancing the experience for everyone who uses the parklands.
“When you live here and raise a family here, the Parklands become part of your story,” Borough Council President Kristen Gajewski said. “They’re where kids explore, where families walk, where neighbors cross paths, and where people find quiet moments along the trails or near the creek. This program is a thoughtful way for families to honor someone they love in a place that continues to bring people together.”
The borough said all proposed bench locations will be reviewed and approved to ensure they are appropriate, align with Parklands planning and respect the natural environment.
Memorial bench orders will be placed twice each year, in February and August. Applicants must submit all required paperwork, approvals, plaque information and payment before orders are processed.
The Borough’s Department of Public Works will coordinate and install approved memorial benches.
“Our Public Works team takes a lot of pride in caring for the Parklands,” Public Works Director Jim Babb said. “These benches are more than just park amenities. They become part of the landscape and part of someone’s story. We want to make sure each bench is placed thoughtfully, installed properly, and maintained in a way that reflects the importance of the tribute.”
According to the borough, the program is designed to provide a lasting and respectful way to remember loved ones while supporting the continued care and enjoyment of the Parklands.
