Berks County Community Foundation has elected Thomas Flynn as the chair of its board of directors. Flynn has served on the board since 2023. He succeeds Susan Denaro, Esq.; she will remain on the board as immediate past chair.
As a former President of Alvernia University, Flynn is a senior associate for Advising Services of Catholic Colleges and Universities, Senior Fellow, Association of Governing Boards, and president emeritus of Alvernia University. He has also worked as an academic administrator and an English professor.
The Community Foundation welcomes Carl Sottosanti as an additional member to its board this month. Sottosanti retired in 2021 as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Penn National Gaming, Inc., where he led gaming development opportunities, corporate governance, commercial transactions, and compliance and labor/employment.
Since retirement, he has advised gaming organizations and investors and serves on several nonprofit and academic boards. He resides in Exeter Township with his wife, Debbie. Sottosanti also served on the Community Foundation’s Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees since 2025.
Board members may serve three, three-year terms.
