A 31-year-old Reading man is facing multiple felony charges after Berks County detectives arrested him in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a 7-year-old child.
The Berks County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that Matthew D. Anoka, of Reading, was charged with rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of children, indecent assault, indecent exposure, and corruption of minors.
According to the district attorney’s office, detectives received multiple ChildLine referrals from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services in May 2026 reporting that a 7-year-old child was the victim of sexual abuse.
Later that month, the child participated in a forensic interview at the Berks County Children’s Alliance Center in Reading. During the interview, investigators said the child disclosed that Anoka had sexually abused him and had shown him sexually explicit pictures and videos.
Detectives determined the alleged abuse occurred in April 2026 at a residence in the 1100 block of Commonwealth Boulevard in Kenhorst Borough.
An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday, July 7, by Magisterial District Judge David L. Yoch. Berks County detectives took Anoka into custody at his Reading residence and transported him to the Berks County Sheriff’s Central Processing Center at the Berks County Courthouse, where he was fingerprinted and photographed.
Following arraignment before Yoch, Anoka was committed to Berks County Jail after bail was denied.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Anoka is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
