Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel said the Coroner’s Office was notified of the death at 3:06 p.m. Friday, June 26, by the Emergency Department at Reading Hospital. A deputy coroner responded to the hospital to investigate.
According to the investigation, John Barton Renninger, of the 0 block of East Summit Street in Mohnton Borough, was riding his bicycle eastbound on Revere Boulevard (Route 724) shortly before 2:30 p.m. when a westbound SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Cloister Court and struck him.
The coroner said Renninger was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries.
His cause of death will be certified as blunt force trauma, and the manner of death has been ruled accidental.
