The Shartlesville Community Fire Company #1 has placed a new Electric Vehicle Discharge Line (EVDL) into service to enhance the department’s ability to manage emergencies involving electric and hybrid vehicles.
As EV traffic continues to increase along Interstate 78 and throughout the region, fire departments are adapting to the unique challenges posed by high‑voltage battery systems. The EVDL provides a practical method for delivering cooling water directly into compromised battery modules, supporting safer and more efficient stabilization during thermal runaway events.
The equipment was delivered on May 6, 2026, followed by hands‑on training for department personnel. Firefighters reviewed deployment procedures, safety considerations, and integration with existing suppression operations.
