The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 5/5/2026, Louie’s Kitchen and Bar, located at 12 Village Center Dr, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Bottles in the prep area not labeled with the common name of the product. Slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. PIC disassembled slicer during inspection to complete cleaning and sanitizing process. Food (cheese, mayo, condiments) held at 50-51 °F, in one the cold prep units in the cooking line area, rather than 41 °F or below as required. PIC placed all food containers in ice baths to rapidly cool. All products moved into the walk-in cooler. Firm will discontinue use of this cold prep unit until a temperature of 41 °F can be maintained. Non-food contact surfaces of the ice machine, including air filters, not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Cleaning tools observed with the potential to contaminate food and/or equipment as evidenced by a bucket of soiled mop water not disposed of in a timely manner being stored in the warewashing/utility area of the kitchen.

On 5/6/2026, La Familia Mexican Restaurant & Bar, located at 200 W 1st St Ste 5, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: An accurate thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the 2-door refrigerator in the kitchen. Observed an accumulation of grease on the floor in the corner of the kitchen near the grill. Food facility does not have the correct type of sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink. The interior of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have some residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Working containers (spray bottles) in the kitchen and bar areas, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On 5/11/2026, Nuse’s Deli, located at 3146 W Main St, Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violation: Multiple food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Corrected. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the Bain Maires, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Food dispensing utensil in the bulk food bins observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container. Corrected. Multiple foods were held at 42°F, in the ice cream Bain Marie area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected.

On 5/13/2026, Kimberton Whole Foods, located at 1139 W Ben Franklin Hwy, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Food facility is using or offering for sale, food containing CBD, an unapproved additive or an approved additive at elevated levels. Back door located in the storage area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Observed a buildup of dust and debris on the fan grates in the produce walk in and in the vent area of the produce display case.

On 5/14/2026, Laxmi’s Indian Grille, located at 1806 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen area, are not labeled with the common name of the food. Working thermometers for ensuring proper temperature of equipment are not available or readily accessible in the two refrigeration units at the cooking area. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the dishwasher. Door located in the kitchen area of the food facility still has gaps at the bottom due to rust/deterioration.

On 5/15/2026, Little Oley Tavern, located at 2068 Farmington Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Ham, cheese, and salami, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the Bain Marie area, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7 day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Ham was held at 112 °F, in the hot hold area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Operator took out the roast beef reheated it to 160 degrees. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the cookline refrigerator, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Observed the inside and the back of the refrigerators and freezer in the cookline area were dirty and need to be cleaned. Observed a build-up of grease on the fryers, vent hood, and on the wall behind the cookline area. A food contact surface, a soda gun nozzle, was observed to have an accumulation of residue. Bartender cleaned and sanitized equipment during inspection. Observed five gallon buckets that are made from a non-grade plastic being used to store food in the refrigerator in the cookline area. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in the cookline area, stored in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Potential rodent harborage areas inside the food facility observed in the basement and kitchen area due to a build-up of boxes and old equipment. Food facility is reusing single-service items, such as salad dressing and sour cream containers for food storage, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. The handwash sink in the cookline area was blocked by jackets and boxes and not accessible at all times for employee use. Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply the three basin sink at the time of this inspection.

On 5/16/2026, Foltz’s, located at 2934 N 5th St, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Several food ingredient storage containers are not labeled with the common name of the food. Observed protective film covering on exterior preventing proper cleaning. Removed/peeled off on inspection. Ice scoop observed stored in non-draining container. Hot pads are heavily soiled. Consider routine cleaning/replacement. Paper towels are available; however, observed roll placed on sink shelf with potential contamination of towels. Paper towel dispenser needed. Mops are not being hung to air dry. No hooks are available for mops.

On 5/20/2026, Logan’s Roadhouse #3503, located at 65 Wilderness Trl, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ceiling tile/vent cover is missing in the ice machine area and needs to be replaced. Observed a plastic container of fruit stored in the drink ice at the bar. Corrected. The quaternary ammonia concentration in the sanitizing solution of the 3-bay warewash sink at the bar was 0 ppm. The incorrect sanitizing solution was installed at this sink. The container was replaced with the correct product during this inspection. One set of lights is not working in the dry storage area near the ice machine. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking from the dipper well drain line. A work order has been submitted to correct this issue. Cheese and sour cream were held at 48 °F, in the cold & hot hold unit at the cooking area, rather than 41°F or below as required. The out-of-temperature products were thrown away, ice was added to the cold well, and new product was added. Floor tiles are missing in front of the fryers and at the walk-in cooler near the back door. The floor in these areas is no longer a smooth, easily cleanable surface. A work order has been submitted to correct this issue. Facility does not have a method to verify the final rinse temperature at the hot water sanitizing dishwasher. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the dishwashing area.
