Reading man charged after Berks drug task force seizes 9 pounds of marijuana, handgun and cash

A Reading man was arrested Friday after investigators allegedly uncovered bulk quantities of marijuana, cash, and a loaded handgun during the execution of a search warrant at a Moss Street residence, according to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.

Berks County Drug Task Force detectives said the investigation began in February 2026 after authorities received information regarding the sale of bulk marijuana from a residence in the 500 block of Moss Street in Reading.

According to the release, detectives conducted an investigation that led to multiple purchases of marijuana from Yobani Murillo-Zavala, 21, of 549 Moss Street.

On May 13, Magisterial District Judge Alvin Robinson signed a search warrant authorizing the search of the residence. Authorities said members of the Berks County Drug Task Force and troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police executed the warrant on Friday, May 15.

During the search, investigators said they detained Murillo-Zavala inside the home and seized approximately nine pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $30,000, numerous baggies of packaged marijuana allegedly prepared for street sales, a loaded .45 caliber handgun, and $8,650 in cash.

Murillo-Zavala was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Berks County Central Processing Center to await arraignment.

Authorities emphasized that criminal charges are accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
