Tower Health Medical Group’s Street Medicine team celebrated a decade of service on April 23, honoring the dedicated volunteers who have helped bring vital healthcare directly to some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.
The Street Medicine program relies on a passionate network of Tower Health employees who volunteer their time and expertise to care for the unsheltered homeless, shelter residents and anyone who is at high risk of experiencing homelessness in Berks County.
During the past decade, both clinical and nonclinical staff have delivered care directly to people in encampments, shelters, and transitional housing settings, helping to break down barriers and build trust where it matters most. In 2025 alone, volunteers contributed nearly 2,000 hours of service, providing care to more than 1,100 patients.
“We are able to provide this type of care because of our volunteers,” said Christine Nepple, CRNP, Clinical Director of Street Medicine. “Because of them, we have expanded access to care for people in all settings – sheltered or unsheltered.”
To honor the contributions of its volunteers, Street Medicine held a special celebration at Building 24 in Wyomissing to recognize the program’s 10-year anniversary and collective impact.
“As we look ahead, we remain inspired by the compassion and dedication of our volunteers,” said Desha Dickson, MS, CDE, Vice President of Community Wellness at Tower Health. “Their willingness to meet people wherever they are continues to drive our mission forward.”
