Bern Township police conducted a targeted traffic enforcement detail along Route 183 earlier this month, resulting in dozens of citations and warnings as part of an effort to address ongoing safety concerns.

According to the Bern Township Police Department, the enforcement took place during the week of April 13 along State Route 183 between Route 222 and Plum Creek Road. Officers focused their efforts during peak travel times, including morning hours from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and afternoon hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Police said the detail targeted a range of violations, including illegal passing, illegal turns, speeding, aggressive driving, following too closely, and traffic signal violations. The initiative was intended to increase visibility along the corridor and improve driver behavior.

During the operation, officers issued 43 citations and 26 warnings. Additional citations were also issued for offenses such as driving under suspension, driving without a license, and inspection violations.

The department said the enforcement detail is part of its ongoing commitment to roadway safety and responsiveness to community concerns, and thanked the public for its cooperation.
