Observed apparent rodent droppings under the front counter: Restaurant Inspections, April 23, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 4/21/2026, Reading Coffee Company @ The Pointe, located at 824 Ben Franklin Hwy Ste 202, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: Large scoops are being stored directly on top of the ice machine, which is not a clean surface. Corrected. Some prepackaged food items in the Grab-N-Go case are not labeled properly with the ingredient statement.

On 4/21/2026, Inn at Bally Spring, located at 90 Airport Rd, Barto, PA 19504, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food Employee is not using available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine sanitizer concentration.

On 4/22/2026, Slicer’s Deli, located at 180 Old Swede Rd, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violation: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the Bain Marie, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Grated cheese was held at ambient temperatures, in the display area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Observed apparent rodent droppings under the front counter. Firm has a pest control service. Corrected.

On 4/22/2026, Sam’s Wyomissing Bistro, located at 1714 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Back door in the dishroom is damaged/deteriorated and does not close properly. Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the small bain marie unit at the cooking line. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the employee restroom. Corrected. Observed evidence of possible roof leaks on the ceiling near the bar and on the ceiling/walls in the back area near the ice machine room. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodent activity in some areas. Facility needs to continue with their pest control program.

On 4/22/2026, Dunkin Donuts #346432, located at 955 Benjamin Franklin Hwy Ste 1, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employee observed in front prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Wall in the dry storage area, has a hole, or is broken and in need of repair. Observed old food debris and dirt under equipment and shelving throughout the facility. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed a buildup of apparent mold in the floor drains under equipment.

On 4/22/2026, Brooks Cafe, LLC, located at 1139 W Ben Franklin Hwy Unit 2, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violation: Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area. Corrected. Multiple foods in the walk-in cooler area stored open with no covering. Observed a buildup of apparent mold on the nonfood contact surfaces of the ice machine. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed a buildup of dirt and debris under the 3-bay sink.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Willy’s Ice Cream in Fleetwood, Boyertown Area Schools Boyertown Elementary in Boyertown, Arby’s #7601 in Elverson, Hereford Volunteer Fire Company in Hereford, Bear Stadium Snack Bar in Boyertown, Spuds Events and Catering in Fleetwood, Saucony Cafe in Kutztown, Redner’s Quick Stop #45 in West Lawn, New China King Restaurant in Kutztown, Kutztown Park Snack Bar in Kutztown, Kitchen at Pricetown in Fleetwood, Governor Mifflin SD Senior High in Shillington, and Beansie’s Cafe in Reading.
