Employee stabbed at Reading Dollar Tree; suspect in custody

A woman was hospitalized after being stabbed inside a Dollar Tree store in Reading on Saturday morning, according to initial reports and the Reading Police Department.

Emergency responders were dispatched around 10:24 a.m. to the Dollar Tree located in the 1100 block of Rockland Street for a reported stabbing. The incident was initially described as a female employee who was attacked by a customer, suffering injuries to the back of her neck and her back.

The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police said she is expected to recover.

In an update, Reading police identified the suspect as Jose Dejesus, a 57-year-old male. Officers from the department’s Patrol Division took him into custody without incident Sunday morning and transported him to Central Processing.

He is facing charges including criminal attempt homicide and related offenses.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
