Beverage gun holder observed with pink organic residue: Restaurant Inspections, March 5, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On 3/5/2026, Mod Pizza, located at 2715 N Meridian Blvd, Reading, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Facility does not have a method to verify the final rinse temperature of the hot water sanitizing dishwasher.

On 3/5/2026, Mission Washoku, located at 10 S Summit Ave, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Cups without handles were observed stored in the containers of rice. Corrected.

On 3/5/2026, Conrad Weiser SD West Elementary, located at 102 S Third St, Womelsdorf, PA 19567, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food contact surface of rubber spatula is not smooth, easily cleanable and/or resistant to cracking. Corrected.

On 3/6/2026, Riverboat Saloon, located at 5860 Old Route 22, Bernville, PA 19506, was inspected and found with the following violation: Drinking water used in the food facility is not from an approved source, such as a public water system or an approved non-public water system. Wall in the lady’s restroom area, has a hole, or is broken and in need of repair. Wall outside of back men’s room observed with a hole and needs repair. Ceiling tiles missing in the lady’s restroom area and need replaced.

On 3/6/2026, Grand Central Tap Room, located at 45 Main St, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: Many food items in the hot hold, which were cooled, were not reheated for hot holding and not at 165°F for 15 seconds as required. Items were taken out of cold holding and put into hot hold unit with a temperature of 65°F. Corrected, items are being reheated to 165°F. Burgers are served raw or undercooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory on the main menu is not provided to the consumer. Floor in the cookline area below prep table and fryer area was observed with excessive debris and grease build up and in need of cleaning. Please increase the frequency of cleaning in this area.

On 3/6/2026, China Hut Restaurant, located at 21 Franklin St, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, are not being date marked. Raw chicken was sitting in the kitchen on the counter at 53 °F rather than 41°F or below as required. Correcting. 4 fryer baskets were observed with broken wires. Corrected. Hood vent filters above the fryers were observed with excessive dust build up.

On 3/6/2026, Brown Bear Coffee MFF3-XRX0448, located at 421 Krumsville Rd, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On 3/9/2026, Tony’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, located at 15 N Home Ave, Topton, PA 19562, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed cases food and food packaging stored directly on the floor in the basement dry storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Raw shelled eggs were stored above a case of cheese in a refrigerator in the dining room. Corrected and moved to the bottom shelf. Non-food contact surface of a spray nozzle in the dish area was not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of black organic matter. Corrected.

On 3/9/2026, Star City Diner and Pizza Parlor, located at 600 Shoemaker Ave, Shoemakersville, PA 19555, was inspected and found with the following violation: Raw shell eggs were observed stored above other foods in the walk-in cooler. Corrected, eggs moved to the bottom shelf. The chlorine concentration in the sanitizing solution of the 3-bay ware wash sink was 0 ppm, rather than 50-100 ppm as required. Corrected, more chlorine was added.

On 3/9/2026, Dollar Tree #1722, located at 5448 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed some food items stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler in the back room, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Lower left door hinge on the 2-door sales-floor refrigerator is not allowing the door to close tightly. Observed spills on the bottom shelf of the front reach-in refrigerator and on the floor of the walk-in cooler in the back room.

On 3/10/2026, Sajal Hot Chicken and Gyro Grill, located at 164 W Main St, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Floor area of the food facility is extremely dirty, with excessive grease and old food build up and in need of cleaning. Food employees observed in cookline area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Employee put on a hat once I introduced myself but has no beard covering on. Please ensure that all employees wear hats/ hair nets and beard nets. Raw chicken stored above ready to eat foods in the reach in cooler. Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or quat test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Only chlorine test strips were available but the sanitizer being used is not chlorine. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerator and cold hold units, are not being date marked. Non-food contact surfaces of shelves below the grill and through the facility are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

On 3/10/2026, Mama Licha Mexican + Italian Restaurant, located at 14949 Kutztown Rd, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ceiling tiles missing in the prep/dish area and need to be replaced. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – handwash sink at the cookline was observed leaking and needs to be repaired. The water cannot be turned off at the water valve. Water must be available to wash hands. Please repair the leak. Observed eight containers of food stored directly on the floor in the walk in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Side door located in the kitchen area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Please replace door sweep. Shredded pork was observed thawing at room temperature in the three-compartment sink, which is not an approved thawing method. Corrected.

On 3/10/2026, Kutztown Tavern, located at 272 W Main St, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ice in the server area stored open with no covering. Corrected, cover put on. Three fryer baskets were observed with broken wires. Owners have new baskets on order. Beverage gun holder, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink organic residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On 3/10/2026, Fortune Cafe, located at 1177 Berkshire Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed some food items stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Take-out containers that are not in the original packaging are not stored inverted to protect the food contact surface. Corrected.

On 3/10/2026, Fish Pond West Inc, located at 200 Swiftwater Ln, Leesport, PA 19533, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have the correct type of sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the dishwasher.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Redner’s Market #26 in Leesport, Chipotle Mexican Grill #1546 in Wyomissing, Brick House Pub in Kenhorst, Acec Farm & Market in Shoemakersville, ProTruck Supply Inc. in Shartlesville, April’s Sweet Treats in Hamburg, Kutztown Area SD High School in Kutztown, KLM Cattle Co and Mars Market in Kutztown, Chili’s Grill & Bar #1853 in Wyomissing, Brandywine Heights Middle School in Topton, and Berks CTC–West Campus in Leesport.
