WCR Center for the Arts to launch monthly community game night in Reading

The WCR Center for the Arts has announced the launch of a new monthly Game Night series aimed at bringing community members together for screen-free fun and social connection. The series is designed for participants of all ages and will focus on relaxed, low-pressure play in the center’s historic Reading setting.

The inaugural Game Night is scheduled for Monday, January 12, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., with future gatherings planned for the second Monday of each month. Attendees are invited to enjoy a variety of board games provided on site, and are also encouraged to bring their own favorites to share with others.

According to Adam Void, executive director of the WCR Center for the Arts, the new series is rooted in the value of play and connection. “I’ve loved board games ever since I was little, and in fact, you’ll be surprised when you come to Game Night by just how many I personally own – and am happy to share with you,” Void said.

“As a theater person, I’ve learned through training and experience that there’s a lot of value to play, and it’s something that we tend to lose as we become older. Add to that the growing movement of people, and especially youth, who are reexamining their relationships to media, technology, and screens and looking to find alternative ways to stay engaged, connected, and find joy. That’s why I’m so excited to see Game Night at the WCR. I can’t wait to see you there!”

Game Night is open to all ages, with a $5 suggested donation. Youth ages 15 and under must attend with a parent or guardian. Free pre-registration is encouraged to assist with planning.

The new monthly series reflects the WCR Center for the Arts’ ongoing commitment to offering inclusive and accessible programming that fosters community connection beyond traditional performances and exhibitions.
