The City of Reading invites the community to a special evening celebrating the city’s vibrant spirit and striking landscapes through the lens of local artists.
On Friday, September 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Reading City Hall will open its doors for a Barro Alegria’s Ojos Photography Reception and Exhibition. The one-night occasion features the work of Reading-based participants and instructors who were challenged to capture the unique beauty of the city they call home.
“This exhibition is not just about photography—it’s about civic pride,” said Anthony Orozco, director of operations for Barrio Alegria. “These talented photographers have captured Reading’s essence in a way that reminds us why we love this city.”
More than a dozen local photographers attended free workshops with renowned award-winning photojournalist Susan L. Angstadt and internationally multimedia artist Juliana Delgado. Many were then lent digital cameras from Barrio Alegria for two weeks to capture the north and south sides of the city.
The exhibition showcases a diverse collection of photographs that highlight Reading’s architecture, neighborhoods, natural scenery, and everyday moments of community life. The exhibition reflects each artist’s personal connection to the city, offering fresh perspectives on familiar streets and hidden gems.
Guests are encouraged to meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and experience Reading through the eyes of its next generation of creative voices. They will also have the opportunity to purchase photos the night of the exhibition. Admission is free and open to the public.
OJOS Photography is one of the longest-running programs offered by Barrio Alegria. This year marks the 10th anniversary for the organization dedicated to empowering neighbors and facilitating transformations through the universal language of the arts.
