Riot at Abraxas Academy leads to injuries and property damage, police say

Caernarvon Township Police are investigating a riot at Abraxas Academy, a juvenile detention facility in New Morgan Borough, that left multiple guards and officers injured and caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Police said the incident occurred on Monday, September 1, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a riot in progress at the facility, located at 1000 Academy Drive.

According to authorities, several inmates coordinated an attempt to take control of the facility by assaulting guards. Responding agencies included Robeson Township Police, Brecknock Township Police, Cumru Township Police, and the Pennsylvania State Police.

The riot resulted in extensive property damage, including broken windows, destroyed cameras, and wiring ripped from the walls. Police said inmates used glass shards as weapons, threatening to cut and stab guards. Several staff members and officers sustained minor injuries, including cuts and lacerations.

Police identified several juveniles involved in the riot. They are listed in the report by either their initials or names as follows: KBW, 15; JMP, 17; VP, 15; RR, 16; Ivan Mora, 18; JBM, 17; and KF, 14. Police noted that the initials reflect how the juveniles were identified in the official report. Each is accused of participating in property destruction, assaults, and threats against staff.

The estimated cost of repairs to the facility is approximately $4,000. Charges are pending against the individuals involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police emphasized that all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
