PennDOT has announced a series of upcoming road projects across Berks County that will bring lane restrictions, closures, and detours beginning Monday, September 15. Motorists are advised to plan for delays, drive with caution in work zones, and follow posted detours where applicable.

In West Reading, crews will be working overnight on U.S. 422 between Buttonwood Street and Bingaman Street. A PennDOT contractor will conduct core boring work, requiring lane restrictions in both directions. The work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly starting September 15 and is expected to wrap up by September 18. Weather will not affect the schedule.

In Bern Township, paving work will begin September 15 on PA 183 (Bernville Road) between the Schuylkill County line and West Leesport Road. PennDOT maintenance forces will be performing the work, which will include daytime lane restrictions with flagging from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through September 16. Rain may cause delays.

Additional maintenance on the same stretch of PA 183 will take place on September 17. Crews will once again restrict lanes with flagging between the Schuylkill County line and West Leesport Road. That work is also scheduled for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be weather dependent.

On September 18, work is scheduled in Upper Bern Township on Shartlesville Road between Bernville Road and Old Route 22. PennDOT maintenance forces will conduct daytime work under lane restrictions with flagging from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain may impact the schedule.

The following day, September 19, similar maintenance is planned in Centre Township on Irish Creek Road between Shartlesville Road and Berne Road. Lane restrictions with flagging will be in place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.

In Leesport Borough, PennDOT crews will be working on PA 61 between Wall Street and Indian Manor Drive. A daytime lane closure will be in place from September 15 through September 18, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Motorists should expect delays, and rain may cause schedule changes.

In Greenwich Township, work is planned for the interstate ramp at Exit 40 (PA 737). The ramp will be restricted on September 19 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Drivers should use caution, and the work may be delayed by rain.

In Longswamp Township, Centennial Road will be closed between State Street and Mary Ann Road on September 19 for drainage work. The closure will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a detour posted. Rain may affect the project.

Finally, in Maxatawny Township, PennDOT will place lane restrictions on U.S. 222 between Kempsville Road and Hilltop Road. The work will occur from September 15 through September 17 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Drivers should expect delays and use caution while traveling through the work zone. Rain may cause adjustments.
