Back-to-School season is the perfect time for a health and wellness reset.
Join the Reading Hospital’s Community Wellness Department for “Fuel Up for Fall Community Recharge,” a free health and wellness fair on Wednesday, August 27 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, 1161 Pershing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611.
The event is open to the public, and the first 150 attendees will receive a free grab-and-go dinner from Centro Hispano. Participants will also be eligible for fun giveaways and raffle prizes, including a Ninja Foodi Possible Cooker Pro, Family Wellness and First Aid Basket, Brew & Go Coffee Lovers Basket, and Self-Care Essentials Basket.
“We are excited to have fun and hear directly from community members about their health needs,” said Tanieka Mason, MPH, Director of Health Equity at Tower Health. “This work is incredibly important, and I’m glad we will have an opportunity to share resources and also explain how we support health and wellness in our community.”
In addition to giveaways, hospital departments and community partners will provide important health, wellness, and safety information. For example, the City of Reading Fire Department will give CPR/AED demonstrations, Safe Berks will host safety check-ins, and Reading Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Coach will be onsite to offer tours and breast cancer education.
Additional activities will include:
- Mini stretch zone
- Healthy snack samples
- Health information and education stations
- Community partner information tables
- Wellness experts to answer your health questions
The event is part of the hospital’s recognition of National Community Health Worker Awareness Week, which will be celebrated from August 25 through August 29, 2025. At Reading Hospital, community health workers play a critical role in increasing access to important health education, helping patients overcome barriers to achieve optimal health, and improving the overall health and well-being of Berks County residents.
As part of the hospital’s award-winning community wellness team, they also identify key health issues in the community and collaborate with community partners to lead programs and initiatives that support community care and health.
“Our Community Wellness team is committed to building a healthier community,” said Desha Dickson, Vice President of Community Wellness at Tower Health. “We want to meet people where they are and make access to healthcare as easy as possible.”
The “Fuel Up for Fall Community Recharge” health and wellness fair is sponsored by Centro Hispano, Redner’s Markets, Inc., and Genentech, a member of the Roche Group. For questions about the event or to contact Reading Hospital’s community health workers, email CommunityWellness@towerhealth.org.
