Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association in northern Berks County is among 37 organizations statewide to receive funding through The GIANT Company and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s 2025 Healing the Planet grant program.
The sanctuary will use its share of the $119,022 in total grant funding to support native tree planting projects, part of a statewide effort that will see more than 4,000 trees planted across Pennsylvania.
“Every action, big or small, helps create a greener tomorrow,” said Courtney Hopcraft, manager of community relations and charitable giving for The GIANT Company. “This year’s Healing the Planet grant recipients are making a difference in their own local communities.”
Since its launch in 2021, the Healing the Planet program has awarded more than $1.3 million to 178 projects that connect communities with green spaces, protect waterways, reduce food waste, and restore native habitats.
Heidi Pedicone, director of programs at Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, said native trees are vital to protecting local ecosystems, supporting wildlife, and reducing erosion. “Each grant recipient is making a lasting impact in their community, from restoring green spaces to protecting water resources across Pennsylvania,” she said.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is a global leader in raptor conservation and education, drawing thousands of visitors each year to its trails and lookout points along the Appalachian flyway. The new funding will support its ongoing habitat restoration work.
