Muhlenberg Township added to Berks County’s online real estate tax payment system

August 14, 2025 - 11:59 PM - Berks Weekly

Berks County residents in Muhlenberg Township can now pay their outstanding annual and interim real estate tax bills online, the county announced this week.

Treasurer Mitchell R. Darcourt said Muhlenberg (District 66) joins the City of Reading (Districts 01–19), Amity Township (District 24), Exeter Township (District 43), Mohnton Borough (District 65), Spring Township (District 80) and Leesport Borough (District 92) in the system, which launched about two years ago.

The online option applies only to county and municipal real estate taxes issued within the current calendar year. All outstanding bills for the year are combined into a single payment, which must be paid in full—partial payments are not accepted. The system does not handle delinquent taxes, school taxes, or other taxes such as per capita; delinquent county and municipal real estate taxes can be paid through the county’s Tax Claim Bureau website.

A service fee, set by the vendor processing the payment, applies to all online transactions. The fee amount is displayed before payment is submitted, and neither the county nor the municipalities collect these fees.

Residents can search tax parcels online to check for outstanding bills and see the current amount due. Copies of bills are not provided through the system; those must be requested from the municipal tax collector. The online search is not a substitute for official tax payment certifications.

The payment link is available on the Berks County website under the Treasurer section, as well as on participating municipalities’ websites. The county plans to update the site as more districts are added to the program.

Questions about the system can be directed to the Berks County Treasurer’s Office.
