Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern Pennsylvania, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, is collaborating with the “I’m Fine.” project to present an immersive art exhibit at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center through July 15.
The “I’m Fine.” Project is a statewide community project raising mental health awareness through art. The initiative is a series of mask-making workshops founded by artists Maureen Joyce and Carrie Breschi and inspired by Maureen’s son, Patrick, who completed his life after a struggle with mental illness.
Participants from local schools and the community create ceramic masks to symbolize the masks individuals wear to portray, hide or minimize difficult emotions or mental health issues. With funding and support from the Berks County Office of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern Pennsylvania and Berkshire Wellness Center of Reading hosted two workshops for local students and adults, respectively, at the Berkshire Wellness Center campus.
The collaborative effort between Haven Behavioral Hospital of Reading, Berkshire Wellness Center of Reading and Berks County culminated into a compelling exhibit showcasing the masks created during the two-day workshop. Members of the public can visit the display at 2500 Bernville Road in Reading until Tuesday, July 15.
“The I’m Fine. project’s workshops offer a creative, tangible outlet for individuals to express feelings so often hidden under the surface,” Groh said. “We’re pleased to have the support of fellow community health resources and providers to engage our neighbors in this inspiring, meaningful project.”
