Alexander Darlington announces campaign for Mayor of Lyons

July 1, 2025 - 04:30 PM - Berks Weekly

Alexander Darlington is a 22 year old Independent running for Mayor of Lyons. Darlington’s campaign has been focused on a listen-first agenda, which means gathering concerns from the residents and discovering the most pressing issues of the town. The campaign was launched in May after being asked to run for office by a local resident.

Darlington is a student from Kutztown University currently obtaining their Master’s in Public Administration and plans to have a lifelong career in public service. His community involvement has been diverse, being an active citizen in university as well as local Kutztown, Mataxawny, and Lyons politics.

The young candidate’s slogan of “No Agenda. Here to listen” visualizes what type of campaign this is. Alexander believes that politicians need to stop talking and start listening if they are to truly serve the residents. Through his vision of making Lyons the Jim Thorpe of the Lehigh Valley, he plans to revitalize the town through civic-orientated revitalization. That means utilizing community engagement and local institutions to collaborate together in order to better the town.

Darlington sees the pathway to helping the citizens through cooperation with other municipalities and tapping into available funding. “This town has a lot of potential,” Darlington said. “We need to be working with our larger neighbors more and be more proactive in getting grants.”

Alexander has kept his campaign very local, currently only using door to door knocking and campaign signs to communicate with residents. If anyone wishes to reach out to Alexander, please do not hesitate and fill out the contact form at alexdarlington.us/contact.
