Robert Wiegand has been appointed as chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Reading. The 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital is located at 1623 Morgantown Road in Reading, Pennsylvania.
“It is a tremendous honor to be selected as Encompass Health Reading’s next CEO,” said Wiegand. “As a licensed physical therapist, I know the power and importance of rehabilitation. I look forward to leading this hospital team in providing the high-quality, compassionate care Encompass Health Reading is known for.”
Wiegand brings more than 18 years of health care experience to the CEO role. He previously served in a dual role at Surgical Institute of Reading as director of operations and director of rehabilitation services. Wiegand’s responsibilities across both functions included managing operations for three high-performing outpatient physical therapy clinics and one inpatient rehabilitation unit, fostering employee engagement and driving exceptional clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Wiegand earned a Master of Business Administration in healthcare management from Western Governors University. He achieved a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Widener University. He also obtained a certificate in strategic operations management from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Wiegand began his career with the United States Marine Corps, serving in the U.S., South America and Central America.
Encompass Health Reading opened to patients in 1998. The hospital holds The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certifications in Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord, Parkinson’s Disease and Amputee Rehabilitation.
