The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On June 3, 2025, Wawa #0282, located at 10 Maplewood Dr, Douglassville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed a buildup of old food residue on the nonfood contact surfaces of the cappuccino machine. Observed a buildup of trash and spilled beverages under the shelving units in the walk-in freezer. Observed peeling paint on the ceiling of the walk-in freezer by the condenser unit.

On June 3, 2025, Joyful House, located at 180 Old Swede Rd Ste 1, Douglassville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed the back hand wash sink not working. Faucet appears to be clogged. Multiple foods are held at 45°F, in the large Bain Marie on the cook line, rather than 41°F or below as required. Observed an excessive amount of old food debris on the floor and trash in the back prep area. Observed a buildup of apparent mold and dust on the fac grates of the condenser unit in the walk-in cooler. Back door located in the kitchen area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, is not being date marked. Corrected. Multiple foods in the walk-in cooler stored open with no covering. Corrected. Observed facility using items intended for single use as dispensing utensils for bulk ingredients. Observed multiple foods stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler and dry storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Food Facility Person in Charge not able to produce records showing that raw or partially cooked ready to eat fish has been frozen by the facility or approved supplier as required, before use or sale. Corrected. Observed deeply scored cutting board on the Bain Marie not resurfaced or discarded as required.

On June 3, 2025, CVS Pharmacy #7838, located at 1149 W Ben Franklin Hwy, Douglassville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Severely dented/distressed baby formula items observed in baby care aisle are and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected. Observed three containers of liquid baby formula offered for sale beyond the use-by date of 6/1/25. Corrected. Observed trash not in bags around the dumpster.

On June 3, 2025, China V, located at 3 Park Ln, Douglassville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in the ware washing area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler and refrigerators, is not being date marked. Food dispensing utensil in bulk ingredient bins observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container. Corrected.

On June 3, 2025, Casa Cortes Mexican Grill, located at 360 E Wyomissing Ave Ste D, Mohnton, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed the handwash sink in the women’s bathroom leaking at the handle and base of the faucet. The handwash sink in the kitchen area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air-drying device.

On June 4, 2025, Gramia’s Restaurant, located at 924 W Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the refrigerator in the cookline area, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerator and the Bain Marie in the cookline area, is not being date marked. Observed a large build-up of grease on the walls and floor of the grill area.

On June 4, 2025, China House, located at 825 Main St, Bally, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Observed food stored directly on the floor in walk-in-cooler and storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in-cooler, refrigerators, and Bain-Marie, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in-cooler, refrigerators, and Bain Marie, is not being date marked. Food in the walk-in-cooler area stored open with no covering. The walls, floor, fryer, grill, and vent hood have a large amount of grease build-up that needs to be removed. Observed cardboard being used on shelves and equipment. An insect control device located in the ware-washing area with potential to contaminate food, equipment, and / or utensils. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Screen door to the outside of the food facility is being propped open.

On June 5, 2025, Ledgerock Golf Club – Club House, located at 1 Greenbriar Dr, Mohnton, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed deeply scored cutting board on the cookline Bain Maire not resurfaced or discarded as required. Cheese was held at 45°F, in the Bain Maire on the cookline, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Observed a buildup of apparent mold on the fan grate and rubber drapes on the outside walk-in cooler. Observed a buildup of apparent mold on the nonfood contact surface of the ice machine.

On June 5, 2025, Lally’s Cakes & Sweets, located at 10 S Summit Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Multiple foods were held at 45°F, in the larger refrigerator, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected.

On June 5, 2025, Ken Grill Pool Snack Bar, located at 730 High Blvd, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in food refrigerator. Multiple foods were held at 46°F, in the food refrigerator, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. The handwash sink does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air-drying device. Observed apparent rodent droppings under the dry storage shelf in the front corner. Facility has a pest control service. Corrected.

On June 6, 2025, West Reading Motor Club, located at 416 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: An open employee’s beverage container was observed on a counter in the first-floor kitchen food preparation area. Corrected. Large back door located in the first-floor kitchen area of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of pests. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the cooking area. Corrected. Food employee personal belongings (purse) observed in on a shelf in the first-floor kitchen area, although lockers are provided. Corrected. Paper towel dispensers empty at the handwash sinks in the bar areas. Corrected.

On June 6, 2025, Turkey Hill Minit Market #126, located at 4 S Center Rd, Leesport, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed 4 gallons of whole white milk and 19 pints of 1% chocolate milk offered for sale beyond the sell-by dates of 6/2/25 and 6/5/2025 respectively. Milk was removed from the shelves immediately.

On June 6, 2025, Stoltzfus Luncheonette, located at 845 B Woodland Rd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Prepackaged sandwiches in the display case are not labeled properly with the full ingredient statement. Customer self-service single-use tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched by customers.

On June 6, 2025, Cloud Nine Cafe, located at 84 Commerce Dr, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed a build-up of dirt and old food debris in the following areas: floor under some of the equipment in the kitchen area, the wall near the prep sink, and the wall near the food processor. Prepackaged food items in the display case are not labeled properly with the full ingredient statement. The slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. The interior of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Ice machine is scheduled to be cleaned next week.

On June 6, 2025, Becca’s Gourmet Coffee & Donuts, located at 845 B Woodland Rd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed some food containers stored directly on the floor in the back area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On June 9, 2025, Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill #7552, located at 2723 N Meridian Blvd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed loose dust/dirt on ceiling vents and ceiling tiles throughout the kitchen and storage areas. Observed an accumulation of water/black slime on the floor and on a drain line behind the bar below the beer taps at the server area. There is a build-up of dirt and debris on the floor in the side room and some areas of the kitchen. Some floor tiles are damaged, and grout is deteriorated in several areas of the bar and kitchen. This allows water and/or food debris to accumulate in these areas. Food employee personal belongings (food items and backpacks) observed in kitchen areas, although designated areas are provided. Corrected.

On June 9, 2025, Oola Bowls Wyomissing, located at 1143 Berkshire Blvd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sinks in the restrooms to remind food employees to wash their hands. Owner will get them posted today. Single-use tableware (purple spoons) not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched when dispensed. Corrected.

On June 9, 2025, Kramer Patel Kwik Stop LLC, located at 5652 Old Route 22, Shartlesville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Wall behind slicer was observed to have dried food, and in need of cleaning. Corrected. Observed case of cups stored directly on the floor in the dry storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected.

On June 10, 2025, Taco Fest, located at 650 Crossing Blvd, Elverson, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the Bain Marie by the grill. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler and front refrigerator by the serving line, are not being date marked. Multiple foods were held at 42.6°F, in the cold hold unit on the service line area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Spice blend, in the back dry storage area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Corrected. Can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Multiple foods, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the walk-in cooler area, were date-marked by the facility, but were beyond the 7 day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Working containers in the drive through area, used for storing cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected. Observed eight deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in ware washing area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting).

On June 10, 2025, Shady Mountain Market, located at 219 Dryville Rd, Fleetwood, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Three half gallons of chocolate milk, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the reach in cooler on the sales floor was beyond the sell by date and requires discarding. Corrected. Food facility is reusing a plastic food container with paper label as a utensil, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Corrected removed from ice bin. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On June 10, 2025, Panera Bread #1684, located at 4395 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Facility is correcting this immediately by using the 3-compartment sink for sanitizing until the dishwasher is functioning properly. Manager will contact the service company. Observed an accumulation of dirt and old food debris on the floor under equipment and at the floor/wall juncture in both the front and back kitchen areas.

On June 10, 2025, Joanna Food Wagon, located at 1102 Elverson Rd, Morgantown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink to remind food employees to wash their hands.

On June 10, 2025, Chef David’s Pizza & More, located at 500 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Employee restroom does not have a self-closing door. A utility sink or curbed cleaning facility with a floor drain is not provided in the food facility for disposal of dirty mop water.

On June 10, 2025, American Legion Post #537, located at 4499 N Twin Valley Rd, Morgantown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On June 10, 2025, 7-Eleven, located at 1547 Lancaster Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Milk for coffee was held at 46°F, in the coffee area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected.

On June 11, 2025, Tropical Latin Cuisine, located at Leesport Farmers Market, Leesport, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility has an employee that has taken food safety training program; however, the food safety program was not an ANSI/CFP accredited Certified Food Manager program.

On June 11, 2025, Bar B Q Pit, located at 4741 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Two fryer baskets were observed with broken wires and two spatulas were observed pitted and torn, these food contact surfaces were not smooth and easily cleanable. Repair or replace fryer baskets. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in all of the refrigerated units, is not being date marked. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired as of 2/15/2025 and is no longer valid. Certification needs to be completed. Can opener blade, was observed to have encrusted food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Food facility is reusing souffle cups as utensils in spice containers to scoop out spices, these are intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Corrected.
