The WCR Center for the Arts has received an $8,100 grant from the Reading Musical Foundation to support its 2025–2026 Musical Performance Program. The funding will enable the WCR to present a diverse lineup of concerts and workshops aimed at enriching the local arts scene and expanding access to music education in the Reading area.
The grant will support four signature programs throughout the season. These include Teacher Recitals, where local private music instructors will host student performances for family and friends; Guitar-A-Rama, a November 20 event featuring performances by Busker Incognito and Travellin’ Brothers from Spain under the direction of Dave Kline, with a pre-show workshop and jam session for all musicians; a performance as part of the 2026 Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest featuring the Hot Club ensemble; and YogaSing™ with Suzanne Jackson, a collaborative program with Berks Youth Chorus and Albright College that will blend music and movement in workshops and a concert of solo opera performances.
“We are deeply grateful to the Reading Musical Foundation for their generous grant in support of our 2025–2026 season programming,” said Jayme Rhoads, President of the WCR Board of Directors. “Their continued investment in the arts empowers us to enrich our community through meaningful musical experiences and educational outreach.”
Located at 140 North 5th Street in Reading’s Callowhill District, the WCR Center for the Arts has transformed its historic 19th-century building into a lively venue for artistic expression and community events. Known for its excellent acoustics, the performance hall regularly attracts local and international artists and audiences alike.
Beyond concerts, the WCR’s programming includes educational initiatives for low- to moderate-income families and partnerships with area nonprofits, helping to broaden access to the arts throughout Greater Reading. The center’s efforts contribute to the city’s cultural and economic revitalization.
The Reading Musical Foundation, which has supported music education, preservation, and performance in Berks County for nearly 100 years, continues to play a vital role in sustaining and growing the local arts community.
