Wacky Water Wednesday returns for another summer of fun in Reading

June 11, 2025 - 11:15 PM - Berks Weekly

A favorite summer tradition is back in the City of Reading as Wacky Water Wednesday returns for its sixth season beginning June 18. The weekly event, which runs every Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. through August 20, features open fire hydrants at locations throughout the city, creating free spray zones for local children to enjoy.

Organized through a collaboration between Mayor Eddie Morán’s office and several city departments — including the Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments, the Reading Area Water Authority, and the Reading Recreation Commission — Wacky Water Wednesday is designed to bring fun, community connection, and relief from the summer heat to neighborhoods across Reading.

“Wacky Water Wednesday is one of those things our kids look forward to every summer,” said Mayor Morán. “It’s simple, it’s fun, and it brings neighbors together — and that’s what summer in Reading should be all about.”
