Demolition completed at East Reading Pool site; splash pad and parking Lot planned

The City of Reading has completed the demolition of the former East Reading Pool, clearing the way for a planned redevelopment of the site into a community splash pad and public-use parking lot.

Mayor Eddie Morán announced the completion of the demolition phase on Thursday, calling it a key step forward in the long-term plans for the East Reading property. The work, which cost $185,560, removed the deteriorated structure and prepares the area for the next stage of the project—design and engineering—set to begin later this year.

Construction is tentatively expected to start in 2026 or 2027, following the design and grant application phases scheduled through 2025 and early 2026.

Temporary “No Parking” signs posted during the demolition will now be removed, restoring access to the area until construction begins.

Mayor Morán visited the site last week during the final stages of demolition. He was joined by Capital Projects Manager David Anspach III, Chief of Staff English Bradley, and Finance Director Jamar Kelly.

“This is an important milestone—not just for East Reading, but for the entire city,” Morán said. “This site now has a future again. We’re creating a safe, welcoming space that meets the needs of today’s families and reflects our vision for a stronger Reading.”

City officials say the project is intended to provide a recreational outlet for families while supporting broader neighborhood and infrastructure improvements.

“This isn’t just about replacing an old facility,” Morán added. “It’s about building something that works for the community today—and will still work for them tomorrow.”
