The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On November 1, 2024, Walmart Supercenter #4612, located at 1800 Tilden Ridge Dr, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found to have the following violations: Severely dented canned items observed on the retail sales floor and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the deli meat case or the deli cheese case. The handwash sink located in the deli area does not have water at a temperature of at least 85°F Water was observed at 78.4°F.
On November 1, 2024, The Other Farm and Forge, located at 128 E Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found to have the following violations: Food employees observed in the cookline area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. A food employee was observed touching cobb salad a ready to eat food with bare hands. Employee threw out salad and remade the salad properly. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the cookline and dishwashing area.
On November 1, 2024, Subway #48592, located at 100 Love Rd, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found to have the following violations: The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.
On November 1, 2024, Giovanni’s Pizzeria, located at 1306 Reading Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found to have the following violations: Food employees observed in the cookline area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the in the refrigerator near the cookline and the refrigerator holding dressing, is not being date marked. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.
On November 1, 2024, Gino’s Cafe, located at 400 W Broad St Unit D, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found to have the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in, is not being date marked. Corrected. Employee toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.
On November 1, 2024, Exeter Township School District Senior High School, located at 201 E 37th St, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found to have the following violation: Ceiling tiles missing in the dry storage room need to be replaced.
On November 1, 2024, Arby’s #1130, located at 2249 Lancaster Pike, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required in the front prep area. Observed a buildup of old food residue on the nonfood contact surfaces of the drive thru soda dispenser. Corrected. Observed apparent rodent droppings on the shelves under the front counter. Corrected.
On November 1, 2024, 501 Grill & Tavern, located at 7646 Lancaster Ave, Mount Aetna, PA 19544, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed cases food stored less than 6 inches off the floor in the walk-in freezer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. The quaternary ammonia concentration in the sanitizing solution of the 3-bay ware wash sink was 0 ppm, rather than 150-400 ppm as stated on the manufacturers use directions. Corrected. Can opener blade, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the men’s restroom to remind food employees to wash their hands. Corrected. Wall in the three-compartment sink area of the food facility is extremely dusty, and in need of cleaning. Corrected.

Mops are not being hung to air dry. Hooks inadequate.
On November 2, 2024, Sammy’s Poultry, located at 2934 N 5th St, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food employees observed not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Ice machine interior panel soiled.
On November 4, 2024, Sheetz Store #655, located at 2246 Lancaster Pike, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed red syrup liquid on the floor and int cabinet under the Freez machine in the self-service area. Observed an apparent mold build up on the nonfood contact portion of the soda dispenser in the self service area.
On November 4, 2024, Mama’s Pizza, located at 2661 Shillington Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: The floor/wall juncture at walk-in cooler area is not coved and closed to 1/32 inch. Metal coving is missing at the doorway of the walk-in cooler.
On November 5, 2024, Turkey Hill Minit Market #295, located at 2600 Conrad Weiser Pkwy, Womelsdorf, PA 19567, was inspected and found with the following violations: Chicken was held at 121 °F, in the hot hold unit in the deli area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected. Water was added to the hot hold unit and chicken was reheated. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the women’s restroom area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Corrected. Ceiling tile missing in the dish area. Corrected. Ceiling area of the deli above the hot hold unit was observed with a buildup of dust, and in need of cleaning.
On November 5, 2024, Tropical Latin Cuisine, located at 4600 Penn Ave Unit 3, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid.
On November 5, 2024, Onvo Travel Plaza-Bethel, located at 8602 Lancaster Ave, Bethel, PA 19507, was inspected and found with the following violations: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the men’s restroom area to remind food employees to wash their hands.
On November 5, 2024, IHOP #5502, located at 2701 Meridian Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed dried food residue on some surfaces of the milkshake machine. There is an accumulation of dirt/debris in the following areas: on the floor under the shelving in the server areas, under some of the equipment at the cooking line, and on the floor under the shelving/soda box unit in the dry storage room. Floor surface material is deteriorating in some areas of the kitchen, such as the dishwasher area and cookline area. Wall and/or coving is deteriorated in multiple areas: near the floor drain at the dishwasher, the area between the office and the utility closet, behind the bain marie unit at the cooking line, and several other areas throughout the facility. Old unused equipment stored in the area near the ice machine/office should be removed from food facility.

Corrected. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Walk in cooler wall and shelves observed with black organic matter and are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Floor tile around drain at dish machine and ceiling in the dish area are observed broken or missing and are not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the walk-in freezer. Manager stated that they are on order. Ceiling vents above the food prep area of the food facility is dusty, and in need of cleaning.
On November 6, 2024, Sicilian Delite Pizzeria & Ristorante, located at 540 E Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed open salad dressing and mayonnaise containers, which are Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in-cooler, and are being held for more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the Bain Maries and refrigerator, is not being date marked. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.
On November 6, 2024, Pour House American Grille, located at 3341 Pricetown Rd, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food dispensing utensil in spices observed stored in the food and did not have a handle. Corrected. Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate quat sanitizer concentration at the three-compartment sink. Kick plate of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have black organic residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Holder for soda gun at the bar was not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of debris. Four spray bottle working containers in the prep/dish area, used for storing chemicals, and cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On November 6, 2024, Michael’s Restaurant, located at 1211 W Benjamin Franklin Hwy, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violations: A food employee was observed touching sliced tomatoes – a ready to eat food – with bare hands. Corrected. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed a heavy buildup of old food, food residue and dirt the under the cook line in the kitchen. Apparent rodent droppings observed on the floor next to the walk-in cooler.
On November 6, 2024, La Salle Academy, located at 440 Holland St, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid.
On November 6, 2024, Charlotte Street Coffee Company, located at 30 N Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed restroom does not have a self-closing door.
