PennDOT/BPC announce traffic reconfigurations for I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project

November 1, 2024 - 05:13 PM - Berks Weekly

Motorists are advised that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) announce a traffic shift on I-78 east and west in support of the I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project.

The contractor will utilize short-term lane closures on I-78 east and west between Exit 30 (Hamburg) and Exit 40 (PA 737) to place temporary concrete barrier to shift both lanes of traffic in each direction toward the center median to facilitate construction on the outer portions of the project.

The Exit 35 (PA 143) interchange ramps to I-78 west will have a temporary stop condition. The ramps toI-78 eastbound will continue to be in a temporary stop condition. The I-78 west traffic shift and ramp reconfiguration work is anticipated to start on November 3rd, between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and continue each night until complete.

The contractor will also utilize 15-minute slow rolling stoppages on I-78 east and west and place flaggers at the Exit 35 interchange ramps to control traffic while they install utility poles and attach communication wire across the interstate, which is anticipated to start on November 10th, between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

The I-78 east traffic shift and ramp reconfiguration work will start thereafter, between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and continue each night until complete.

On Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, PennDOT and BPD-I hosted the I-78 Lenhartsville Pre-Construction Public Meeting in Lenhartsville to introduce key members of the I-78 Lenhartsville team and provide an update about specific pre-construction and anticipated upcoming construction activities, traffic plans and scheduling.
