The Old River Road bridge near The Beidler House in Birdsboro has been closed immediately to all traffic after engineers deemed it unsafe due to structural deterioration.
The bridge is barricaded, with local access only up to the closure point. Drivers are advised to follow existing Route 724 detours and expect delays.
The closure comes as nearby work continues on the Route 724 bridge replacement by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Officials say the Old River Road bridge could remain closed long-term, with full replacement planned for 2030.
