The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Berks and central Lehigh counties, in effect until 3:00 p.m. At 2:12 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Reading, moving north at 30 miles per hour.
The storm is producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and quarter-size hail, with radar indicating the potential for minor vehicle damage and wind-related damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines.
Areas expected to be impacted include Reading, Hamburg, Fleetwood, Birdsboro, Topton, Shillington, Sinking Spring, and surrounding communities.
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm, and torrential rainfall may lead to flash flooding. Residents are urged to move indoors immediately, avoid flooded roadways, and take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
