Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Northwestern Berks

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for northwestern Berks County, in effect until 1:45 p.m. At 1:08 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Myerstown, moving northeast at 35 miles per hour.

The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and quarter-size hail. Radar has indicated the potential for minor damage to vehicles, as well as possible wind damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines. Areas that may be impacted include Strausstown and Womelsdorf, along with Interstate 78 between mile markers 10 and 24. Residents are advised to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

In addition to hail and damaging winds, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck—move indoors immediately.
