The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northern Berks County, in effect until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
As of 8:14 p.m., radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms moving east at 70 mph, stretching from Sweet Valley to near Nuremburg and Pine Grove. The storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Potential impacts include damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines. Residents in Strausstown, Shoemakersville, and areas along Interstate 78 near mile markers 8 and 10–57 are advised to take shelter immediately.
The warning also covers parts of Lehigh, Carbon, Monroe, and Northampton counties.
The National Weather Service urges residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building until the storm passes.
